Problem with Captivate 2 inserted in Breeze 5
12. Feb 2009 at 12:42

We have some web-based courses developed in Breeze Presenter 5 and in some of them we want to include simulations developed in Captivate 2.  Due to limitations in our LMS, we can't easily create a link to an external Captivate file and so we need to insert them directly into the Breeze PPT.

Using the Insert Flash item from the Breeze menu, we are able to drop the Captivate flash file onto a slide and it displays and runs correctly when the presentation is viewed in PowerPoint.  However once it is published in Breeze into a flash file, the inserted Captivate simulation fails to run.  The first screen of the Captivate simualation displays, but it does not run or respond to user actions - it just stays frozen on its first screen like it was a static graphic.

This problem is happening with every developer here who has tried it, but everything I have read says that inserting a Captivate flash into a Breeze presentation is possible (and even a recommended solution).  The Captivate simulations don't include anything unusual or complex (I have tried turning off borders, etc) - the problem even occurs with the basic Teach Me Inc sample project that comes with Captivate 2.

Has anybody else experienced this?  Anybody know the cause or solution?

For what it's worth, have you looked at my posts concerning Captivate?

Here's a link to the first of 2 entries: http://robrode.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1206540918

One thing I'd recommend immediately is to look at your Captivate project folder; make certain that no other files (meaning flash files) are showing up.  If you've published the content without the _skin.swf that's one thing.  If you're using any Full Motion Recordings, that's something else entirely.  Start there and double check to see what (and how many) files are there.

Then, you may have to take a look inside the Data folder of your published content.  Inside, you should see another folder called Resources.  If you open the resources folder, you should see a listing of every single flash file that you added to your presentation using the Breeze --> Insert Flash menu.  IF your Captivate movie has any other associated files that are necessary to launch and run that content, then you're going to need to add those files in the Resources directory as well.

With Captivate 2, I seem to recall that there was a way to publish to different versions of the Flash Player...take a look at that as well...with Breeze I think published content is set to publish using version 6 or 7...I don't remember now, but check to make sure that you're not publishing for version 8.  See what happens there and let me know if there's anything else going on that might be contributing to the problem.
